TXDOT Pedestrian Safety Initiative

We’re hiring energetic and outgoing individuals to join our WALKR Street Team, part of TxDOT’s statewide Pedestrian Safety initiative. Walking billboard teams will be on the streets across all 25 TxDOT districts, activating in cities with the highest rates of pedestrian-related traffic crashes. This initiative kicks off National Pedestrian Safety Month and is designed to remind both drivers and pedestrians to stay alert and watch out for each other.

As part of the WALKR Street Team, staff will represent TxDOT’s Pedestrian Safety initiative by wearing backpack billboards and walking pre-determined routes at busy intersections to create a strong visual presence. Responsibilities include engaging with drivers and pedestrians, distributing branded slap band giveaways, activating campaign safety messages while cars are stopped, and ensuring all routes and safety protocols are followed. Staff will spend most of the shift outdoors, walking and on their feet, while maintaining a positive, approachable, and energetic attitude to maximize community impact and campaign visibility.

What You’ll Do:

• Wear a backpack billboard while walking pre-determined routes at busy intersections.
• Be active, visible, and engaging throughout your shift, with most of your time spent walking outdoors.
• Hand out branded slap band giveaways to drivers and pedestrians.
• Activate the campaign’s safety messages when cars are stopped at intersections.
• Follow walking paths and safety protocols provided for each activation.
• Work alongside your team and support the Team Lead with on-site needs.
